About Us

HDHV was founded in 1980 and has provided summer activities to disabled children in Portsmouth for the past 30 years.

HDHV aims to provide a safe, fun programme of activities in an informal environment that gives the youngsters a chance to make new friends and gain from new experiences.

The playscheme offers 35 spaces and will accept applications from physically disabled children aged 6-18 years and also their sibling or a friend. We also employ 20 members of staff to run all the activities and therefore have a high ratio of staff to children thus allowing the children the individual attention they require. There are also always spaces for volunteers aged 15 upwards who wish to come along for the experience.

HDHV provides a wide variety of activities over the first 3 weeks of the summer holidays from swimming, music workshops, bowling to dry slope skiing and paintballing. In 2008 we even took the children to London on the train and they got to experience The London Eye and The Aquarium. In 2009 children had the opportunity to learn archery and even experience a high line zip wire at Foxlease in Hampshire.

HDHV has a 'can-do' attitude, if the children want to try it we will do our best to make it happen.

HDHV is a registered charity and is organised solely by a voluntary committee. The committee meet on a monthly basis to plan the scheme.
